The 10 Fastest Cars in the World (And How Much They Cost!)
Speedy automobiles are and have always been rather expensive, this being pretty much a given due to the technical complexities and richly-priced wonder materials that are required when boffins decide to build a truly boundary-breaking feat of precision engineering. There are a lot of fast cars out there though, which leads one to wonder; which are the fastest?
#10 Gumpert Apollo
225 mph – €400,000
The least expensive car on our list, and perhaps the one with the least sexy name, the Apollo’s makers claim that the car could be driven upside-down in a tunnel when driven at speeds exceeding 190 mph. Alas, no-one has tried it yet, although at such a *comparatively* cheap price, we’re wondering why no-one yet has…
#9 Pagani Huarya
230 mph – €1,100,000
720-hp, 738 lb ft of torque and 0-60 in 3 seconds; Mercedes AMG’s beast is a fine example of hypercar sensibilities, named after the Incan god of wind, Huayra-tata.
#8 Zenvo ST1
233 mph – €1,080,000
Danish supercar creators Zenvo Automotive are pretty new to the game, but their first outing, the ST1, is a fine start. Only 15 will ever be made, although owners will benefit from “flying mechanics” that can spring into action at a moment’s notice!
#7 Maclaren F1
240 mph – €850,000
Although this car is pretty low on the list, the fact that it was released in 1992 means that this is perhaps the most historic auto on our list, although models are still available from the correct sources. You simply can’t put in to words how stellar and groundbreaking this car’s development was; beautiful, fast, gull-wing doors – how very nineties!
#6 Koenigsegg CCX
245 mph – €480,000
A Swedish design, the CCX was Koenigsegg’s previous car before number 3 on our list, but still competes heartily amongst newer, sleeker contenders. 0-60 in 3.2 seconds and 806-hp, if you had one of these those new entries’ extra speeds would fade into insignificance amongst the roaring and vibration!
#5 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo
248 mph – €490,000
Big, noisy and American, the S7 – which can do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds thanks to an all-aluminium, 750-hp V8 – is a fine addition to a list dominated by German powerhouses.
#4 SSC Ultimate Aero
257 mph – €660,000
A relatively affordable ultracar, the Ultimate Aero was the fastest in the world from March 2007 until July 2010, and for such an old car it’s a testament to the designers that it can compete so deftly 8 years on.
#3 Koenigsegg Agera R
260 mph – €1,400,000
Funnily enough, the 1099-hp, 0-60 mph in 2.9 secs, V8 beast that is the Afera R can be outfitted with a Ski Box and winter tires, if you’re in need of an car to take you up to your getaway in the Alps.
#2 Bugatti Veyron Super Sport
268 mph – €2,100,000
Almost twice the price of the original Veyron, the Super Sport was the fastest car in the world between 2010 and 2014, thanks to an aluminium, Narrow Angle 8-litre W16 engine that pumps out 1200 hp!
#1 Hennessey Venom GT
270 mph – €1,000,000
With only 29 aimed at being built, this 1244-hp, 7.0-litre, turbocharged, V8 Twin Turbo V8…all right, we get it; this cognac-flavoured freak of speed is monstrously fast, but that’s not all. When the Venom GT was undertaking its record attempt, it was hampered by the 3.22 mile-long track! As such, we simply don’t know how fast this car can go!
