Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry are forming a supergroup!

Now this is what we call a supergroup! Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry have joined forces with Velvet Revolver’s Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum to form new band Hollywood Vampires, with an album launch and string of tour dates already in the pipeline.

The star-spangled group will release their eponymous debut LP on September 11th this autumn, with tour dates to follow on the Sunset Strip and at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil. If you’re hoping to get some tickets, we can only wish you the best of luck!

Cooper and Perry are familiar faces on the stadium rock circuit – Cooper famously mixed hard rock music with an eyeliner-smeared theatricality to create massive crossover smash hits like ‘Poison’ and ‘School’s Out’, while Perry made his name as lead guitarist in one of the most successful bands of all time, Aerosmith. Unbeknownst to some, movie-star Depp is also a rock musician of considerable talent and experience.

New bandmate

Speaking to Rolling Stone magazine, Cooper enthused about his new bandmate: “Johnny has this old school rock & roll feel in his playing – it is very choosy and thoughtful. He gets in and out and avoids overplaying, which a lot of players should learn from. He’s also not a stage hog, which surprised me at first. He’s happy being up there and enjoying the music, but he never makes it about him.

“What I really love about Johnny is that when he does music, it is for fun and because he loves music. He was a musician first, so I think it is really close to his heart.”

To tell the tale

Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagen and drummer Matt Sorum will round off the band’s astonishingly star-studded line-up in quite some style. As many of you are already away, this superb rhythm section would be the headline of this article themselves, were it not for the phenomenal fame of their bandmates. McKagen is one of the most successful rock bassists of all time, having played with Guns N’ Roses throughout their glam rock heyday and lived to tell the tale.
